The quality of a video meeting can truly make or break a meeting. Poor video quality is not only frustrating but can also limit productivity and hinder the meeting's purpose.
As with all real-time communication and browser-based video meetings, a stable connection is required. We want to identify these issues before the video meeting rather than during it. Therefore, we have created a test that both you as the meeting organizer can use before the meeting and send to your visitors in advance. Read more about it here: Test Everything Works Before the Meeting.
Depending on the test results, it can help us understand what the next step is. For example, if you receive a notification that a firewall is blocking, it means that firewalls in your current network are blocking video and audio traffic. This means the video meeting will not work at all (or will be interrupted after a set number of minutes). Here is more information for the network administrator about what is required to use the service: Required Firewall Configuration.
Additional Tips
- If you experience issues with your connection, it might help to close other programs that use a lot of bandwidth on your computer or switch to another browser.
- Check your network connection and move closer to the router if you are on Wi-Fi.
- Switch Wi-Fi networks or use your smartphone’s hotspot (e.g., 4G).
- Move closer to the router or use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer directly to the router.
- Make sure no one is downloading or streaming via your Wi-Fi.
- Change devices; try using your tablet, phone, or computer instead of the device you are currently using.
- Switch browsers (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
- You can always refresh the page, turn off your camera, and/or disable background effects during your video meeting to improve call quality.
Using a VPN?
Try turning off the VPN and running the video meeting without it. We always recommend the shortest path to the internet and not using our video meetings with VPN enabled as this can negatively impact video meeting quality. This is also difficult for us to influence.
